Koh Mudsum, also referred to as Koh Matsum, is a small island on the south side of Koh Samui. It’s a popular island among daytrippers for enjoying a picnic on its white sandy beach, and it also offers great good opportunities for snorkelling, kayaking or just chilling out in the sunshine.

There are many tour operators offering day trips to Koh Mudsum. These trips usually start around 8am to 8.30am at Thong Krut Pier, at the most southern tip of Koh Samui. A longtail boat will then take you to the island in around 30 minutes and bring you back around 3pm or 4.30pm.

Island hopping to Koh Madsum

Tours often include lunch on the beach and soft drinks, and sometimes it also includes kayaking or a trek on the neighbouring island of Koh Taen. Trip costs vary depending on the itinerary and optional extras but you can expect to pay around 2,000 baht. Transport to and from your hotel is usually included.

If you prefer to visit on your own then you can rent a scooter and make your way to Thong Krut, where you'll have to bargain with a fisherman to take you to the island. Once on Koh Madsum, you do have one small restaurant and kayak rentals, but don't expect lively beach bars. Besides this, there is one resort, The Treasure Koh Madsum, in the middle of the island.
